During the Covid-19 pandemic, Chinese people living abroad — whether as residents or travellers — found themselves in an extremely difficult situation: on one hand, the impossibility of returning to their loved ones; on the other, the constant fear brought on by the rise of anti-Asian hatred and heightened racial discrimination.
For the artists, creating far from home was a way of resisting and asserting their existence in the face of this dark period. Their works are so many glimmers of light that illuminate our understanding of this reality.
Division, characterised by a fluctuating balance between aggregation and fragmentation, is a universal phenomenon in ecosystems. This process manifests through interactions between individuals and transforms the structure of the group. Thus, viruses, by invading human individuals, affect society as a whole and disrupt the established order.
The exhibition explores the dynamics of these interactions, their impact on our understanding of the state of survival, and the dissolution of boundaries between nature and humanity. The artists attempt to break down the traditional distinctions between humans and nature by exploring the way individuals exist within natural space.
